This beautiful area sets on a ridge overlooking Hemlock Lake in Western New York. The lake was once ringed with stately homes, cottages and had three hotels. A steamboat carried freight from the north end down to Springwater, eight miles away. Hemlock Lake became the water source for Rochester, 30 miles to the north, in the 1890s. All the cottages were torn down or moved up to the hamlet of Hemlock.
